Welcome to my little corner of the internet. I’m glad you’re here.

So, I’m gonna be blogging.

I’ve tried blogging before, back in the day, and I’m hoping things will go better this time around. I’m pretty sure they will, as I have a little better grasp on who I am and what I want to say than I had twenty years ago.

This blog will be wide ranging.

I’m a teacher, and in a past life I was a youth pastor and a soccer coach. Across all those jobs I had a commitment to helping people become more of who they could be, so I’m gonna write about development, education, becoming.

My entire childhood I played sports, and when I stopped playing I began coaching and watching sports, so I’m going to write about sports. I have thoughts about the distinct role sports play in American culture, and I’m going to try to flesh some of those thoughts here. I’ll also probably just have some surface level takes about how Liverpool are the best soccer team in the world, because trying to be deep all the time is tiresome.

Perhaps most critically to my current understanding of who I am at the moment, I am a writer, so I’ll be writing about writing, some of the struggles I’ve had, some advice for people looking to get into writing themselves, some of the tools I’ve found helpful.

Finally, I do live in society, and I have thoughts about the state of things. I’ll probably write about some of those thoughts. To be honest, that’s probably the part that scares me the most. I’ve never really given myself permission to voice opinions about things like politics, so it’ll probably take me a while to work my way up to that. In any event, I expect my views to change over time. As Emerson said, foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

So that’s what I plan to write about. Feel free to hang around, leave comments, challenge my ideas, ask for clarification, or just voice your own opinion on things. I look forward to the journey, and hope you’ll come along with me.
